Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@resolutionpointmediation.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Family mediation is a private, structured process where a neutral mediator helps parents or divorcing couples work through important decisions. The goal is to help both parties communicate clearly, identify practical solutions, and create agreements that work for their family.

Family mediation can help with parenting plans, residential schedules, decision-making, holidays, communication expectations, child-related expenses, divorce agreements, and other family-related issues. Each mediation is focused on the specific needs and circumstances of the family.

No. The mediator is a neutral party. The mediator does not take sides, make decisions for either person, or tell either party what they must agree to. The mediator helps guide the conversation so both people can discuss concerns, explore options, and work toward a durable and doable plan.

No. Mediation is designed to help when there are unresolved issues. You do not need to have everything figured out before you come in. It can be helpful to think about your goals, concerns, and what you believe would work best for your family.

No. Resolution Point Mediation does not create court-required legal documents, file documents with the court, or provide legal advice. Our role is to help both parties work through the issues, identify agreements, and organize the terms you have reached in mediation.

Once agreements are reached, you may choose to have an attorney prepare or review the required court documents, or you may use the court’s self-help forms and filing instructions. Each party is responsible for making sure the final documents are complete, accurate, and properly filed with the court.

It helps to come prepared with a list of topics you want to discuss, your preferred parenting schedule, important dates, financial or child-related concerns, and any questions you have. It is also helpful to think about what your children need and what kind of agreement will be realistic over time.

The length of mediation depends on the number of issues, the level of conflict, and how prepared each party is. Some families resolve issues in one session, while others need multiple sessions to work through parenting plans, divorce terms, or more complex concerns.  Each session is no more than 3 hours.

Resolution Point Mediation focuses on helping families create peaceful, practical agreements that fit their real lives. The process is neutral, organized, and centered on helping parents and couples move forward with clarity, dignity, and a plan they can actually follow.
